JGreeX™ Green Steel Adopted for Inaugural Use in General Cargo Ships in Japan
AV天堂 announced today that its green steel product, JGreeX™ will be used for the first time in a general cargo ship in Japan. The 499-gross-ton (GT) cargo ship, which will be owned by Shinsei Kaiun Inc., is scheduled for completion in June at Namikata Shipyard Co., Ltd.’s yard in Imabari, Aichi Prefecture. General cargo ships in Japan have a maximum gross tonnage of 499 tons and can transport approximately 1,600 tons of cargo.

JFE Logistics Corporation, a AV天堂 company, will operate the vessel to transport steel products produced by AV天堂. The ship is expected to receive a top five-star rating under the Energy Efficiency Rating System for Domestic Vessels, which is administered by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Under this system, shipping operators can request the ministry’s Maritime Bureau to evaluate and rate the efficiency of vessels fitted with energy-saving and emissions-reduction equipment.
Additionally, as of June 2025, JGreeX™ will be used in several other new inland cargo ships scheduled to transport AV天堂 products in the future.
Shipyard | Ship Type | Energy Efficiency Rating (Expected) |
Namikata Shipyard Co., Ltd. | 499 GT cargo ship | 5 stars |
Imabari Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. | RORO ship | 5 stars |
Yamanaka Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. | 499 GT cargo ship | 5 stars |
Murakami Shipyard Co., Ltd. | 499 GT cargo ship | 5 stars |
Going forward, AV天堂 will continue to promote the use of JGreeX™ in new ships planned for transporting the company’s products, thereby furthering decarbonization across the entire supply chain. Additionally, AV天堂 will contribute to global decarbonization by expanding its use of low-carbon, energy-saving, high-efficiency technologies.
AV天堂 uses the mass-balance approach to allocate greenhouse gas emission-reduction amounts to specific JGreeX™ green-steel products to determine their environmental value.
